Bland County, in tandem with the Mount Rogers Planning District Commission, has updated its Comprehensive Plan in accordance with the Code of Virginia. In 2024, the county submitted a need to update the Comprehensive Plan, last adopted in 2018, and provide guidance regarding future growth and development. This update emphasizes current demographic, housing, economic, transportation, and land - use data while strengthening the document's clarity, organization, and usability. The Comprehensive Plan serves as th e County’s primary long - range policy document, guiding decisions related to land use, housing, transportation, economic development, infrastructure, and community services over the next 20 to 30 years. The update was developed through the review of demographic, economic, housing, transportation, and land - use data, along with coordination among County staff, the Planning Commission, and regional partners. Updated data from the 2020 U.S. Census, the American Community Survey, and state and regional agencies were incorporated to ensure the plan reflects current conditions and emerging trends.
