DELINQUENT ACCOUNT NOTICE

The Bland County Treasurer’s Office would like to provide advanced notice to taxpayers with delinquent personal property and real estate taxes of notices that will be mailed by March 1, 2024, detailing total amounts due by April 1, 2024. The March notices will also advise taxpayers that failure to pay taxes in full will result in collection actions after the April 1, 2024, deadline including but not limited to: DMV Stops, wage and bank liens, distress, judicial sales, and other actions as authorized by the Code of Virginia.

This effort to collect delinquent taxes falls in line with the legal mandate and obligation placed on the treasurer by the Virginia Code §58.1-3919 which reads: “The treasurer, after the due date of any tax or other charge collected by such treasurer, shall call upon each person chargeable with such tax or other charge who has not paid the same prior to that time, or upon the agent, if any, of such person resident within the county, city or town for payment thereof; and upon failure or refusal of such person or agent to pay the same he shall proceed to collect by distress or otherwise.”

We stand ready to assist taxpayers in any way possible as prescribed by law. Questions or comments should be directed to the Treasurer’s Office by email at akidd@bland.org or over the phone at 276-688-3741.
