FFA Students and David Harless Recognized
On Tuesday, October 22nd, the Bland County Board of Supervisors recognized the success of the Bland County High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) State Fair Competition Team along with David Harless for his years of public service with Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
On October 1st, the Bland County High FFA students competed in the Virginia State Fair Forestry Field Day Championships. “The FFA students from Bland County have a strong history of success and the team this year was no exception,” stated Randy Johnson, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. “The Board of Supervisors are very proud of the young people in Bland County and it is always an honor to celebrate their accomplishments with them.” The team this year had multiple members achieve success. JC Bryan placed 5th in Senior Bow Saw, Tommy Blankenship and Lane Hubble placed 5th in Senior Crosscut, Thomas Hanshew placed 4th in Junior Bow Saw, and Lance Burton and Robbie Penley won 1st place in Junior Crosscut. The FFA team was coached by their Agriculture teacher, Devan Johnson. “Bland County Public Schools have very talented students, teachers, and community members,” stated Supervisor Karen Hodock. “We have witnessed multiple times over the years outstanding student achievement and success across a variety of programs, it is truly a testament to the community, parents, students, and schools.”
The Board of Supervisors also recognized David Harless, who is set to retire at the end of 2019 after over 36 years of service with Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). “David has provided excellent service to the citizens of Bland County over his career and we are delighted to have the opportunity to recognize him as he plans to retire,” commented Supervisor Stephen Kelley. “In my tenure with the Board of Supervisors, I have been very impressed by David’s dedication to service. He has been an asset to the citizens of this County, and we wish him the best in his retirement,” stated Supervisor Adam Kidd.
