Bland County Local Emergency: Open-Air Burn Ban to End 10-17-2019
The Local Emergency: open-air burn ban in the County of Bland will end effective Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
Bland County, similar to many localities in southwest Virginia, has experience extremely dry weather conditions for several months. Due to concerns of extreme fire danger and the possible lack of water to fight a severe fire, local officials declared a local emergency banning open air burning on Saturday, September 14th. Bland County has received some rain since that declaration, especially on October 16th with more rain forecasted in the coming days, therefore, the decision has been made to lift the open-air burn ban. County officials continue to stress the need for everyone to be cautious with any burning, because, while there has been some rain, the County is still experiencing drought-like conditions.
